The WordPress/JetPack writing prompt for today is:
Do you believe in karma?
If karma existed, the world would be a better place.
If karma existed, many world leaders, both political and economic, would have faced very public repercussions for their actions.
If people understood that their actions would have equal repercussions, then good acts would be demonstrably rewarded enough, and bad acts punished enough, that people would choose to do good, if only out of self-interest.
Imagine if being kind meant you were met with kindness. imagine if being generous meant you were rewarded with generosity. imagine if having empathy and compassion for others meant that others felt compassion and empathy for you.
But there isn’t karma, there are just choices. You get to decide for yourself how you treat others, and you get to live with yourself. how much you feel pain for the pain you cause is a matter of character, not karma.
Coincidentally, a friend of mine had her book launch party this week. Her book, A Cup of Kindness, “unpacks the myths that have kept kindness out of leadership, examines what emotionally intelligent, courageous leadership actually looks like, and addresses the hard reality that being kind at work sometimes takes more grit than being tough.” (from the Penguin Random House blurb). It isn’t about karma, exactly, but it kind of is.
