My First NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo

I’ve never done NaNoWriMo (and don’t want to have to type that name a lot – too many caps!). I’ve witnessed Twitter friends go through it. They’ve made it sound painful, honestly. Somehow it always seemed like a form of torture that i didn’t need to impose on myself.

But this year has been a bad year for writing. I’ve lost whatever patterns and habits that i had. This has happened before, and I’ve dealt with it – eventually getting on again. But I don’t want to be wasting so much time waiting for it to pass.

Another reason to attempt it is that I’ve been getting morose about Christmas the past few years, each year earlier and earlier. Maybe a month-long distraction in November would be good for me.

So to take the bull by the horns, I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo (that word again! Sheesh!). I’m not sure i understand it. Apparently I have to write 50,000 words in a month or I’m a loser? I seriously doubt i’ll do that. I’ a slow writer at the best of times.

But I’ll try. And if along the way I get my mojo back, cool. If not, well at least I’ve experienced NaNoWriMo once (can we get a better acronym?). So if you’re doing it (I will NOT say the name again!), buddy me (Whatever that means) and we can suffer together!
